Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced an important decision by the government in regards to the engineering and medical admissions. The entrance exams NEET and JEE required for these admissions will from 2019 be conducted twice a year. Also, these exams that were so far conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) will now be hosted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The other exams NTA will be hosting are University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) and Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). NTA's first organized exam will however be UGC NET, the qualifying exam for teacher's recruitment. UGC NET is scheduled to be held in December 2018.
When Will JEE And NEET Be Conducted
- JEE (Mains) - January and April
- NEET - February and May
The registration for JEE will be open in September while that of NEET will begin from October. "This is one of the major reforms in the examination system of the country to be implemented by the NTA. The NTA will start conducting examinations starting this December when it will hold the UGC-NET. The dates will be announced later by the agency. However, the big change is that for the first time JEE (main) and NEET will be conducted twice a year and students will be allowed to choose their convenient dates and centres," Javadekar said.
JEE And NEET Exam Mode
These exams will be fully computerized and be conducted in the online mode.
"The exams will be more secure and at par with international norms. There will be no issues of leakage and it would be more student friendly, open, scientific and a leak-proof system," Javadekar added.
