NSUI Shines in DUSU Election 2024: Rounak Khatri Poised to Become the President

The much-awaited Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections are underway, and early trends highlight the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) emerging as a strong contender. Leading in three critical positions-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary-the NSUI is poised to make a significant mark this election cycle.

Key Highlights of the Counting Progress

  • President: Rounak Khatri (NSUI) is ahead with 5,531 votes after five rounds of counting.
  • Joint Secretary: Lokesh Choudhary (NSUI) has built a significant lead with 6,065 votes.
  • Secretary: Namrata Jeph Meena (NSUI) is currently leading with 4,425 votes.

While NSUI dominates these positions, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) continues to hold its ground. Notably, Bhanu Pratap Singh (ABVP) leads the Vice-President race with 6,101 votes.

Battleground: Closer Look at the Contest

This year's elections have attracted 21 candidates, representing a spectrum of ideologies.

  • Presidential Race: An intense battle among ABVP's Rishabh Chaudhary, NSUI's Rounak Khatri, and AISA's Saavy Gupta.
  • Vice-Presidency: Bhanu Pratap Singh (ABVP) faces NSUI's Yash Nandal and AISA's Ayush Mondal.
  • Secretary: A contest between ABVP's Mitravinda Karanwal and NSUI's Namrata Jeph Meena.
  • Joint Secretary: Lokesh Choudhary (NSUI) is ahead of ABVP's Aman Kapasia and SFI's Sneha Aggarwal.

The DUSU elections, a hallmark of Delhi University's vibrant campus life, reflect the political aspirations and evolving ideologies of its students. These results are not only about leadership but also act as a mirror to broader societal trends among youth. This year's elections are particularly noteworthy due to the Delhi High Court's intervention, which delayed the announcement of results. The court mandated a cleanup of campaign defacement before declaring winners.

As vote counting progresses, students, candidates, and political observers await the final results with bated breath. Will the NSUI maintain its lead, or will ABVP reclaim its dominance? Only time will tell.
