Now the candidates certified for the Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost and Works Accountant (ICWA) will be treated equivalent to the degree of Post-graduation, said the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been requested by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICWA), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to consider the CA, CS, and ICWA certificates equivalent to the degree of post-graduation.
The UGC constituted a committee and considered the recommendation of the expert committee and decided that CA, CS, and ICWA qualifications be considered equivalent to PG degrees. The ICAI has welcomed this move through a tweet.

As of now, 110 academic institutions, together with 102 Universities, 2 IITs, and 6 IIMs had recognised qualifications in CA for pursuing Ph.D. programme.
The move will strengthen the profession of Company Secretary all around the world and will give the members of the institute an opportunity to pursue Ph.D. in Commerce as well as Allied Disciplines, said the ICSI.
