NMMSS Scholarship 2026: Deadline Extended! Apply on NSP Before September 30

The Ministry of Education has extended the National Means‑cum‑Merit Scholarship Scheme application window on the National Scholarship Portal to September 30, 2026. Institute and district verification timelines have also shifted, giving Class 9 fresh and renewal candidates more breathing room to finish forms and get them verified on time.

What stays unchanged is who qualifies. The scheme targets meritorious students from government, government‑aided, and local body schools with parental income up to ₹3.5 lakh, and at least 55 percent in Class 7, with five percent relaxation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. The scholarship is ₹12,000 a year.

NMMSS 2026–27 deadlines on NSP

Students can apply on NSP until September 30, 2026. Institute Nodal Officer verification closes on October 15, and District Nodal Officer verification ends on October 31. Generate your One Time Registration number before applying; OTR is mandatory from this year’s cycle. Do not wait until the final week.

NMMSS eligibility and state quotas

Eligibility requires parental income within ₹3.5 lakh, 55 percent in Class 7, and study in non‑residential government or aided schools; central residential schools are excluded. One lakh fresh seats are offered nationally, divided by State and Union Territory quotas notified by SCERTs; watch local updates like Himachal Pradesh’s live notices.

How to apply fast on NSP (OTR to submission)

Install the NSP OTR app, complete Aadhaar face authentication, then log in at scholarships.gov.in and select National Means‑cum‑Merit Scholarship under the Department of School Education and Literacy. Upload documents, submit, and track L1 and L2 verification. If face authentication fails with error 904, update Aadhaar Face RD and unlock biometrics.

Documents, verification and payment credit

Keep ready: Aadhaar, OTR, bank passbook in the student’s name, income certificate, previous class mark sheet, category or disability proof if applicable, admission proof, and a recent photo. Applications move through Institute and District verification. Payments are made via PFMS under Direct Benefit Transfer, typically after final verification in the last quarter.

With the clock reset to September 30, 2026, focus on clean documentation and early OTR. Submit well before the last week to leave time for both verification levels. Track status regularly on NSP, and monitor your SCERT’s notices for local instructions and quota movements before results and credits arrive.
