Preparations have begun in Greater Noida for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) examination 2027-28. The Basic Education Department has started the process of identifying eligible students and ensuring that all required documents are prepared well in advance.

Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar has directed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) to complete the documentation process for eligible students within the prescribed timeline. The objective is to ensure that deserving students do not miss the opportunity to apply for the scholarship due to incomplete documents or delays in obtaining certificates.
As part of the preparations, eligible students studying in Class 8 at council upper primary schools are being identified. School authorities have been instructed to ensure that students have important documents such as income certificates, caste certificates and Aadhaar cards ready before the application process begins.
School principals have also been asked to inform students and their parents about the NMMS scheme, including its eligibility requirements, application procedure and examination details. Early preparation will help students and schools complete the application process without last-minute difficulties.
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is designed to support meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and encourage them to continue their education at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
The scheme aims to reduce the financial challenges that may cause students to discontinue their studies after Class 8. Students who qualify through the prescribed selection process receive financial assistance during Classes 9 to 12.
Students selected under the NMMS scheme are provided a scholarship of Rs 12,000 per year from Class 9 through Class 12, subject to the applicable conditions.
The financial support is intended to encourage students to remain in school and continue their education. For eligible families, the scholarship can provide assistance toward educational expenses during the secondary and senior secondary stages.
Students preparing to apply should ensure that their important documents are available and updated. These may include:
The Basic Education Department has asked schools and officials to facilitate the timely preparation of these documents so that eligible students do not face difficulties while applying.
School principals and teachers have been directed to provide students and parents with complete information about the NMMS examination. This includes explaining the eligibility criteria, application process, examination requirements and scholarship benefits.
Examination Nodal Officer Rajesh Khanna said the department's focus is to ensure that the maximum possible number of eligible students benefit from the scholarship programme.
Eligible Class 8 students should stay in contact with their respective schools and keep their documents ready. Parents should also ensure that certificates and Aadhaar details are accurate and available before the application deadline.
Students should regularly follow official announcements regarding the NMMS examination 2027-28, including application dates, examination schedule and other requirements.
The early preparations in Greater Noida are aimed at making the application process smoother and ensuring that deserving students are not excluded from the scholarship due to documentation-related issues. With coordinated efforts by schools, education officials, students and parents, the department hopes to increase participation and extend the benefits of the NMMS scheme to more eligible students.
