National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli Admission 2026-27
The institute was originally established in 1964 as a Regional Engineering College (REC) through a joint initiative of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. Over time, it gained academic and administrative autonomy and was granted deemed university status in 2003.

Following the enactment of the NIT Act in 2007, it was officially recognized as a National Institute of Technology, further strengthening its academic and research framework.
For the 2026-27 academic session, NIT Tiruchirappalli offers 10 undergraduate (B.Tech) programmes across various engineering disciplines. At the postgraduate level, the institute provides M.Tech, M.S. (by Research), MBA, and architecture programmes, along with doctoral (PhD) opportunities in multiple fields. The institute also houses dedicated schools for management and architecture, broadening its academic scope beyond core engineering.
Admissions to undergraduate programmes are conducted through the national-level entrance examination Joint Entrance Examination Main, followed by centralized counselling via the CSAB/JoSAA process. Postgraduate admissions typically require valid scores in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, along with institute-level selection procedures or departmental entrance tests, depending on the programme. Management admissions may involve national-level tests such as Common Admission Test.
The campus is located in Thuvakudi, about 17 kilometres from Tiruchirappalli city, along the Tiruchirappalli-Thanjavur National Highway. Spread over a large area, the campus includes academic departments, research laboratories, hostels, residential quarters, and other essential facilities, making it a fully residential institution.
