For the 2026-27 academic session, NIT Agartala offers eight undergraduate (B.Tech) programmes across core engineering branches such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and other specialized fields. In addition, the institute provides a range of postgraduate programmes (M.Tech and other PG courses) along with opportunities for doctoral (PhD) and post-doctoral research.

Admissions to undergraduate programmes are conducted through the national-level examination Joint Entrance Examination Main, followed by centralized counselling. For postgraduate engineering programmes, candidates are generally required to qualify in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Admission to research programmes is based on institute-level selection processes, including written tests and interviews.

The institute has recently updated its academic framework in line with contemporary education standards, adopting a credit-based evaluation system similar to that followed by leading institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology. This system allows greater flexibility in course selection through a wider range of elective subjects, enabling students to tailor their academic pathways according to their interests and career goals.

The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical learning and practical application. Industrial training and project work form an integral part of the academic structure, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience in real-world scenarios. The institute also encourages participation in co-curricular and social activities through organizations such as the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC), promoting community engagement and leadership development.

NIT Agartala is located in the state of Tripura and serves as a key centre for technical education in the northeastern region of India. The campus includes academic departments, laboratories, hostels, and other facilities that support a residential and research-oriented learning environment.

For Admission 2026-27, the institute continues to focus on delivering quality technical education, promoting research, and enhancing skill development among students. With its evolving curriculum, emphasis on innovation, and commitment to academic excellence, NIT Agartala provides opportunities for students to pursue higher education in engineering and contribute to technological advancement in the region and beyond.
