Kochi, Oct 20: Kerala governor has appointed Dr J Letha, director, Technical Education Kerala, as vice chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).

 

She is the 13th vice chancellor of CUSAT as well as the first woman to be appointed to the post. Kerala governor is the chancellor of the university.

Dr Letha will take charge of the new post on October 20; a university press release said on Saturday.

Dr K Poulose Jacob, pro-vice chancellor of the university was holding charge of vice chancellor after Dr Ramachandran Thekkedath vacated the post on January three this year.

Dr Letha who has more than 27 years' of experience in teaching, research and administration had served as principal, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Kerala and as registrar, TEQUIP.

A Civil Engineering graduate from Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr Letha won the gold medal for her M.Tech from IIT, Madras, where she acquired her Ph.D. too.

She joined as a lecturer in Civil Engineering at NIT, Calicut and served in various capacities, including principal. She joined as Technical Education director in 2011.

Dr Letha has also served on the governing boards of IIT, Madras, IIITMK, NIT, Calicut, University of Kerala, LBS Institute of Technology and Kerala State Pollution Control Board. She is also a member of the CUSAT Syndicate.
