The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has partnered with the National Defence College (NDC) to introduce an Executive MBA Programme in 'Strategic Leadership and Public Policy'.

New Executive MBA with IIT-M & NDC

This programme, aimed at senior officers from various branches of the Indian government and friendly foreign nations, spans 48 weeks and integrates both academic lectures and practical modules, including a thesis component.

Purpose and Objectives:

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, highlighted the programme's importance by stating, "The next-gen world requires leaders with a deep understanding of contemporary technologies. This MBA programme is designed to address this need." The initiative seeks to enhance participants' intellectual capabilities, develop strategic thinking, and prepare them for leadership roles in both national and international contexts.

Programme Structure and Faculty:

The Executive MBA will be delivered by faculty members from IIT Madras' Department of Management Studies and Aerospace departments, alongside NDC faculty and other subject matter experts. The curriculum is tailored to provide an in-depth understanding of strategic leadership and public policy, focusing on real-world challenges faced by senior officers in government and defense sectors. The programme aims to foster both theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring participants can apply their learning in strategic decision-making roles.
A total of 120 participants will be selected through a rigorous screening process. These participants will be drawn from the Indian Armed Forces, Civil Services, Police Services, and various other government sectors. Additionally, officers from friendly foreign nations will also be part of the cohort, ensuring a diverse mix of professionals with a range of experiences.

Eligibility Criteria:

The programme is designed for senior officers, typically at the Brigadier level or equivalent in the armed forces. Civil service and diplomatic officers, usually at the level of Director or Joint Secretary to the Government of India, are also eligible to participate. The focus is on enrolling experienced officials with significant leadership experience, ensuring that the course content is relevant to their strategic roles.
An official statement from IIT Madras highlighted that the programme is aimed at developing advanced leadership skills among selected senior officers, not only from India but also from friendly foreign nations. The cohort will include participants from civilian government services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and more.

MoU Signing Event:

The partnership between IIT Madras and NDC was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Prof. M. The event was attended by prominent figures such as Prof. V. Kamakoti and Dipti Mohil Chawla, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

This collaboration represents a pivotal step towards equipping senior government officials with the managerial skills necessary for high-level strategic roles. The unique blend of academic rigour and practical application is designed to prepare these leaders for the complex challenges they will face in the future, ensuring they are well-versed in both technology and strategic governance.
