New Academic Session For Engineering And Technical Courses To Commence From October: AICTE

A per the AICTE's academic calendar, the first-year session will resume from October 25, with lateral entry admissions to second-year degrees beginning on October 30. The classes will be either in online or offline mode.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) announced through an official notification that the new academic session for the first-year students in technical degrees will begin by October 25, 2021. This is a further delay from the AICTE's prior announcement that new classes would begin in September. The new session has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the AICTE's recent academic calendar, the first-year session will resume from October 25, with lateral entry admissions to second-year degrees beginning on October 30. By August 11, the admissions procedure for PGDM and PGCM institutes will be closed. By September 10, admissions for an open mode of learning or online courses will be closed.

The classes will begin in either online or offline mode, or in a Blended mode (both online and offline), according to the pandemic's stipulated procedures or rules, said AICTE. The governing body stated, "The Academic Calendar may alter subject to prevailing conditions due to Pandemic and recommendations issued by the Ministry of Health/Ministry of Home/Ministry of Education from time to time."

The courses offered by AICTE-affiliated colleges will be available in regional languages starting this year. According to the National Education Policy (NEP), a total of 14 colleges in nine states will provide regional language courses. From the start of the new academic session (2020-21), courses will be provided in as many as five languages: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali. In 11 different languages, the AICTE is translating courses and generating online and offline content.

By the end of this month, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is anticipated to release its calendar. According to the UGC, its affiliated colleges would begin the admission process only after the 12th board results are released, which include CBSE, CISCE, and state exams. The commissions will direct professional colleges to begin the admission process after all of the class 12 results have been released. For first-year undergraduate courses, the UGC uses merit-based admission criteria and looks at class 12 grades. Both CBSE and CISCE have stated that the final results for class 12 will be announced on July 31. As a result, UGC admissions are scheduled to take place after July.
