With the NEET UG Re-Exam 2026 Result now declared, the admission process has entered its next crucial stage-NEET UG Counselling 2026. While qualifying the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is mandatory for admission to medical courses, securing a qualifying score alone does not guarantee a seat.
Candidates must participate in the counselling process to obtain admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical programmes.
The counselling process is conducted at two levels: All India Quota (AIQ) counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and State Quota counselling by the respective state authorities. Candidates are advised to understand both counselling systems carefully to maximise their chances of securing admission.
Two Levels of NEET UG Counselling
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), conducts counselling for:
- 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical and dental colleges.
- 100% seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, Deemed Universities, ESIC institutions, AFMS colleges (as applicable), and other participating central institutes.
For instance, if a government medical college has 100 MBBS seats, around 15 seats are filled through the All India Quota, allowing candidates from across the country to compete irrespective of their home state.
The remaining 85% seats in government medical colleges, along with most seats in private medical colleges, are filled through state counselling. These admissions are generally subject to domicile rules, reservation policies, and eligibility criteria prescribed by individual states.
Candidates Can Participate in Both Counselling Processes
Eligible candidates are permitted to register for both MCC counselling and their respective state counselling simultaneously, provided they satisfy the eligibility conditions.
