Centre To Revisit EWS Income Criteria

The decision to withhold the NEET PG Counselling 2021 process arrived following the Centre's submission before the Supreme Court that it will revisit the 8 lakh income ceiling criteria it has fixed for determining and permitting reservations to the EWS category in the AIQ for medical admissions, which will be taken in the next four weeks, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said assuring the apex court of not proceeding with the counselling process before the final hearing on the matter.

Centre decided to reconsider its 8 EWS income slab criteria after the Supreme Court questioned the basis for fixing 8 lakh annual income criteria for determining the EWS category on the lines of determining OBC - NCL candidates on a uniform scale across India which has diverse standards of living and earning forcing the Centre to revisit the income criteria for deciding the economically weaker sections (EWS) category for granting reservation under AIQ for medical admissions requiring 4 weeks of time to arrive at an appropriate decision.

NEET PG Counseling 2021 Issue

The decision regarding postponement of NEET PG Counseling 2021 began following a Supreme Court directive to the Centre to postpone the NEET PG Counseling 2021 session until it decides on the validity of the implementation of EWS (10%) and OBC (27%) reservation in the all India quota (AIQ). It may be noted that the NEET PG counselling for 50 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats - MD/MS/DIPLOMA/PG DNB was scheduled to begin on October 25 which now will be held after the apex court rules on the OBC and EWS quota issue.

NEET PG Counseling Date, Time And Documents Required

NEET PG Counselling session will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Two rounds of NEET PG 2021 counselling are to be held, followed by mop-up and stray vacancy rounds.

As per the official schedule, the NEET PG Counselling 2021 Round 1 and NEET PG Registration 2021 along with the fee payment should have started on October 25, 2021 and ended on October 29, 2021.

What Is NEET PG?

NEET PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination for admissions into postgraduate program such as MD/MS and PG Diploma courses across India as per Section (10) of Indian Medical Council Act 1956. While, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is entrusted with conducting the exam, and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will be conducting NEET PG medical counselling for allotting the 50 per cent AIQ seats, 100% seats of Central Universities, and 100% seats of Deemed University with the States having their own counselling agencies to complete the NEET PG medical counselling process.
