NEET PG 2022 Schedule Update: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to the Centre seeking postponement of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test or NEET PG 2022 session scheduled to be held on May 21, 2022 due to frequent delays and incompletion of the AIQ NEET PG 2021 counseling process making it difficult for NEET PG aspirants to prepare for the upcoming NEET PG 2022 examination.

Seeking immediate rescheduling of NEET PG 2022 May session, the medical association in a letter to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, "Since the NEET PG 2022 examination date is 21st May 2022, we request your timely intervention and urgent consideration of postponement of the NEET PG 2022 for a reasonable period of time, so that, the current NEET-PG 2021 aspirants have adequate time to prepare and appear for the upcoming NEET-PG 2022 examination and the eligibility of all interns is also ensured."

"We are sure that the issue shall be dealt with urgency by granting the prayer as made hereinabove in larger academic and societal interest as a whole," the letter added.

NEET PG 2021 Counseling Delays

The urgency seeking postponement of NEET PG 2022 arises out of the frequent disruptions and delays in the NEET PG 2021 counseling process which is still underway, with several States yet to complete the counseling process for the NEET PG 2021 session.

It may be noted that the NEET PG 2021 examination was held 5 months after the scheduled date in the month of September 2021 with the counselling process scheduled to begin on October 25, 2021, which got deferred to January 2022 owing to a decision pending on seat reservations, and got further delayed owing to a Supreme Court ruling of 31st March 2022, which ordered the cancellation and conduction of Special Round of Counselling for the Mop-up round.

Given this, the NEET PG 2022 schedule was deferred from April 2022 to May 2022, so that the candidates could appear for the final stray vacancy round of NEET PG 2021 and can still have plenty of time for preparation and reappearance for the NEET PG 2022 examination if they failed to secure a seat. However, the AIQ Counselling process anticipated to be completed by the end of March 2022 got extended to the months of April-May 2022 causing a great degree of inconvenience for candidates preparing for NEET PG 2022 examination scheduled to be held on May 21, 2022.

Impact On Medical Graduates, Aspirants

Further another five to ten thousand interns, who served as COVID warriors during COVID-19 pandemic, are ineligible to appear for NEET-PG due to delay in the completion of their final examination, and consequently, their internship beyond eligibility criteria set for the examination also needs to be given an equitable opportunity along with the rest to the take up the NEET PG 2022 examination.
