The NEET PG 2022 exam has been postponed by six to eight weeks on Friday (February 4) by the Union Health Ministry, citing a date clash with NEET PG 2021 counselling. According to the Ministry's notice, 'Medical doctors have made several requests to postpone the NEET-PG 2022 examination date, to be held on March 12, 2022, as it is clashing with the NEET PG 2021 counselling. In addition, many interns would be unable to participate in the PG Counselling 2022 by May/June 2022.'

The announcement stated, 'Considering the facts, the Union Health Ministry has decided to postpone NEET PG 2022 by 6-8 weeks or as appropriate.'

Earlier, the exam was to be conducted on March 12, 2022, which will now take place on May 21, 2022. The registration dates have also been extended. "The NEET-PG 2022 shall now be conducted on 21st May 2022 (09:00 AM to 12:30 PM). The online application window for submission of applications for NEET-PG 2022 which was earlier notified to be closed on 04.02.2022 (till 11:55 PM) shall now continue till 25.03.2022 (till 11:55 PM)," stated the official notification.

Six MBBS graduates filed a petition in the Supreme Court on January 25 asking for a postponement of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for March 12 for admissions to postgraduate medical courses, claiming that many MBBS graduates would be unable to take the exam because the mandatory internship period had not been completed.

In a communication to Dr M Bajpai, Executive Director of NBE, Dr B Srinivas, Assistant Director General (Medical Education) and Member Secretary of the Medical Counselling Committee, stated that a large number of representations were received from medical doctors requesting that the NEET-PG 2022 examination be postponed because it clashed with the NEET PG 2021 counselling.

In addition, many of the interns would be unable to attend the PG counselling 2022 in May-June, according to Srinivas. "In light of the situation, the HFM (ministry of health and family welfare) has decided to postpone NEET PG 2022 by 6-8 weeks or as necessary." As a result, HFM's decision may be followed," the communication dated February 3 read.
