The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has included two important prehistoric archaeological sites of Karnataka - Islampur in Yadgir district and Sanganakallu in Ballari district - in the school curriculum. The two sites will now be studied by Class 9 students as part of the chapter 'Early Humans and Beginning of Civilisation'.

The inclusion marks a greater emphasis on prehistoric archaeology and India's early human history in school education. Students will be introduced to how early humans evolved, lived, adapted to their surroundings and developed tools using locally available materials.
Islampur and Sanganakallu are significant archaeological sites that provide insights into prehistoric human activity in the Indian subcontinent.
