More than 8 lakh candidates apply for SSC CGL Exam 2016

The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) had invited applications for the entrance exam to be held between August 27, 2016 to September 11, 2016. This year over 8 lakh candidates have registered themselves to take up the SSC CGL Exam 2016. The SSC CGL Exam 2016 for the first time will be held online.

 

The decision for online examination along with various changes in the exam pattern has been made by the SSC panel to improve transparency and eliminate malpractices in the examination.

The online examination mode was decided by the panel to ensure smooth and faster processing of results.

The changes in the exam pattern of SSC CGL 2016 is as follows:

  • The examination will be conducted in 3 tiers instead of two with an additional tier of the descriptive part.
  • The paper will have 100 questions.
  • The duration allotted for the examination is 75 minutes.
  • The tier 2 paper pattern remains unchanged.

According to Ashim Khurana, who is the newly appointed chairman of SSC, said, "It has been decided to conduct the CGLE through online mode rather than Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based. It is a historic decision that will bring in more transparency in the examination process".

Important dates:
The exam date for Tier 1 has been declared: August 27, 2016
The dates for tier 2 and tier 3 examinations will be declared after the results of tier 1 exam.
