Students from economically backward families received scholarships worth Rs 1.89 lakh at the annual day function of Meenakshi College for Women, Chennai, on Monday.
Professor H Devaraj, Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission said while addressing the students that in-spite of the advancements in the 21st century, nothing can contest the knowledge of a ‘guru' or teacher.
Identifying the best method of teaching was the traditional method, the UGC official praised the college for providing quality education to girls for decades. In the next 10 years, chances were that the college would become a university as per the UGC official.
The prizes to the toppers were distributed by Devaraj. Deputy General Manager of State Bank of India, Kodambakkam, Dilli Kumar, distributed the scholarships. Also present were Karpagam, Principal of Meenakshi College for Women, K S Babai, Principal, Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College and Lakshmi, Secretary, College committee.
