Manipal University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bosch Rexroth India Ltd. on 21-11-2013 for establishing a Centre of Excellence in Automation Technologies. This is an Industry - Academic partnership initiative with financial and technological participation by Bosch Rexroth.
The main objective of the center is to transfer current technologies to students and evolve into a research and innovation center, and the primary focus will be on technology training, knowledge transfer, projects, application, research and innovation. This will result in bridging the technology gap between Industry and academics and also improve employability and self-competence of students.
The major technologies that will be present in the center are Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Sensorics, Electrical Drives and Controls, Mechatronics and Robotics along with Learn Management System which is a software-based teaching and learning media, which involves eLearning modules, Technology trainer, Application trainer, Animation of components and systems, and Simulation aided learning units.
The center will operate from the department of Mechatronics Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal in a few months time.
Dr Johannes T Grobe, Managing Director Bosch Rexroth India, and Mr Rajkumar R S, Vice-President, Bosch Rexroth India were present to sign the MoU.
Dr. Ramdas M Pai, Chancellor of the University, represented Manipal University. Dr. Ramanarayan, Vice- Chancellor, Pro-Voice Chancellors Dr. Vinod Bhat and Dr. Surendra Shetty, along with Registrar Dr. G K Prabhu, Dr. Vinod V Thomas, Director of MIT Manipal, Dr. Srikanth Rao, Joint Director, MIT Manipal and Dr. Chandrashekhar Bhat, Head, Department Mechatronics Engineering, MIT Manipal were present during the signing ceremony.
Director Manipal Institute of Technology, Dr. Vinod V Thomas, briefed about the center and its objective while Mr. Rajkumar explained about the present technological trends and industrial requirements in the field of Automation Technologies and how the center will enable students to acquire the necessary technical knowledge and skills.
