In a significant move towards digitizing citizen services, Nara Lokesh, the IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh, unveiled the Mana Mitra WhatsApp governance service. This innovative platform is designed to deliver 161 essential services directly to citizens, thereby reducing the need for physical visits to government offices. Launched at the Chief Minister's residence in Undavalli, Guntur district, this initiative marks a pivotal step in leveraging technology for governance.

The first phase of this service rollout includes a diverse range of departments such as Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteens, CM Relief Fund (CMRF), and Municipal Departments. With a promise of more services to be added in the second phase, the government's aim is to streamline and simplify the process of obtaining basic documents and services for the people of Andhra Pradesh. "We believe it is a historic moment. To get basic documents why should they (people) come to government offices or meet an MLA," Lokesh stated during the launch event.
Highlighting the importance of safeguarding citizen data, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to bolster cybersecurity measures. This directive comes in the wake of the partnership agreement signed with Meta on October 22, 2024, to expand services through WhatsApp. The focus is on preventing the mishandling of people's information by cybercriminals, emphasizing the need for robust forensic and cybersecurity frameworks.
The inspiration for Mana Mitra stems from Lokesh's experiences during his padayatra days, aiming to provide a hassle-free service to the citizens. This sentiment was further echoed during a presentation given to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, where officials outlined the operational details of the service. They explained how individuals could select from the available options to avail of the services offered.
As the WhatsApp governance program unfolds, the first phase currently offers 161 services, with plans to expand to 360 services in the upcoming phase. Eventually, Lokesh anticipates providing approximately 520 services through this initiative. This ambitious project not only aims to enhance the efficiency of service delivery but also positions Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of integrating technology into governance.
In conclusion, the launch of Mana Mitra by IT Minister Nara Lokesh represents a transformative approach to governance in Andhra Pradesh. By enabling citizens to access essential services through WhatsApp, the state government is setting a new standard for convenience and security in public service delivery. This initiative not only promises to mitigate the bureaucratic hurdles but also underscores the state's commitment to embracing digital solutions for the betterment of its citizens.
