Major Reforms in NEET, JEE Exams to be Announced for 2025: What Students Need to Know

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Education, is preparing to introduce major reforms in entrance examinations like NEET and JEE starting in January 2025. These changes are based on the recommendations of a High-Level Committee of Experts (HLCE) led by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO and Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Kanpur.

The reforms aim to make entrance tests conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) more transparent, smooth, and error-free, providing students with a fair platform to showcase their abilities.

1. Strengthening the NTA

The HLCE has proposed enhancing the National Testing Agency's capabilities by integrating institutional linkages with states and collaborating with test-indenting agencies as knowledge and examination partners.

The Ministry has sought the cooperation of all states and union territories to establish state and district-level committees to ensure zero-error conduct of entrance examinations. This measure highlights the importance of flawless execution in both Pen and Paper Tests (PPT) and Computer-Based Tests (CBT).

3. Improved Question Paper Protocols

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been recommended for setting and vetting question papers. These guidelines aim to prevent breaches, ensure fairness, and maintain high standards in the preparation of exam questions.

4. Test Centre Allocation Policy

A detailed framework for allocating testing centres is under development. This framework will prevent any unusual patterns in centre allocation, ensuring students are allotted centres of their choice as far as possible.

5. Monitoring and Implementation

A High-Powered Steering Committee has been established to oversee the implementation of HLCE recommendations. This committee will ensure that the suggested reforms are executed effectively and in a timely manner.
