Maharashtra Chief Minister Announces MPSC Exams Will Be Conducted In Marathi

In a significant move aimed at benefiting Marathi-speaking aspirants, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that all competitive examinations conducted through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will be available in Marathi. This declaration was made in response to concerns raised about language barriers faced by students, particularly those pursuing agriculture and engineering disciplines where exams were previously conducted only in English.

Maharashtra MPSC Exams To Be Held In Marathi

Addressing the state legislative council, CM Fadnavis highlighted that the decision to conduct MPSC exams in Marathi, despite the current unavailability of Marathi textbooks for certain technical subjects, aligns with the new education policy. This policy enables the conducting of engineering courses in Marathi, which paves the way for these competitive exams to follow suit. The government's commitment to providing Marathi textbooks for these technical subjects signifies a major step towards inclusive education and examination practices.

Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Milind Narvekar brought this issue to the forefront by questioning why exams related to engineering were not offered in Marathi, pointing out the exclusion of Marathi-medium students in certain fields. In response, Fadnavis clarified that while most exams were conducted in both Marathi and English, specific exams, especially those related to agricultural engineering, were mandated to be in English following a court ruling. This was primarily due to the absence of study material in Marathi for those subjects.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the government's efforts to overcome the challenge of unavailable textbooks in Marathi for technical subjects. He mentioned that the state had taken the matter to court, arguing the lack of Marathi textbooks as a significant hurdle. Fortunately, the court acknowledged this issue, which has led to an initiative to make these educational resources available in Marathi.

Expanding Access to MPSC Exams

Fadnavis assured that a structured timeline would be established in collaboration with the MPSC to ensure the seamless introduction of Marathi in all competitive exams. This development is anticipated to greatly assist Marathi-speaking students who aim to take MPSC exams but were previously hindered by the language barrier. The move is seen as a stride towards making competitive exams more accessible and equitable for students from various linguistic backgrounds.

In conclusion, the Maharashtra government's decision to conduct all MPSC competitive examinations in Marathi marks a significant shift towards educational inclusivity. This initiative is expected to level the playing field for Marathi-speaking aspirants, offering them an equal opportunity to succeed in these crucial exams. With the introduction of Marathi textbooks for technical subjects on the horizon, students can look forward to a more accommodating examination process.
