The students studying for Class 10 in the state of Maharashtra will only be able to get hold of 15 marks if they excel in arts and cultural activities as per the revised rules by the state government. This is opposed to the 25 marks which was decided before and rewarded earlier to teh students.
The Maharashtra government have also scraped the 2 percent reservation that the students who earned extra marls could procure in the First Year Junior College admissions.
Additional marks were provided to class 10 students areas like arts and cultural activities, for the first time in March 2017, along with the marks for participation in sports. This move had resulted with around 81,000 availing the benefit and approximately 190 students were provided with 100 percent marks.
The principals of the many institutions had come forward that accepted that the extra marks through art and cultural activities was the reason that many students could reach such scores.
A GR was issued by the education department of the Maharashtra government. This issue will be revising the rules with respect to awarding of the extra marks for the SSC students.
The new move of providing 15 marks instead of 25 marks, will be implemented from the next academic year of 2018-19.
