MP seeks SC for counselling extension

Bhopal, Aug 12: Madhya Pradesh Association of Technical and Professional Institutes (MPATPI) may move the Supreme Court to seek extension of counselling date for admission to the state's private engineering colleges where a large number of seats are lying vacant.

The MPATPI is considering moving the apex court as around 70,000 out of one lakh seats in private engineering colleges of the state are vacant at present, MPATPI president Sunil Bansal said.

The last date for counselling is August 14 and if this is not extended, the seats may remain unfilled, he said.

A request had been made by the MPATPI to the state Department of Technical Education to extend the last date of counselling, but it said that this can be done only by the Supreme Court, Bansal said.

The saturation in engineering courses and students opting for new under-graduate courses, including law and commerce, has led to this situation (of seats lying vacant), he said.

Moreover, students are seeking admissions to courses for mechanical and civil engineering while only a few are opting for computer science, information technology and electronics, he added.
