Due to heavy rainfall warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), district administrations in Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Kannur have declared a holiday for all schools and educational institutions on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The decision has been made in view of student safety amid ongoing monsoon-related disruptions, including waterlogging, localised flooding, and transportation issues.
In response to the continuous heavy rainfall across Kerala, the district collectors of Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Kannur have announced a precautionary holiday for all educational institutions, including schools and anganwadis, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The holiday applies to both government and private institutions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts in Kerala due to the intensification of the southwest monsoon. Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Kannur are among the worst affected, recording high rainfall levels over the past 48 hours. With water bodies nearing flood levels and local roads witnessing inundation, authorities have advised against non-essential travel.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) is coordinating with local administrations to monitor the evolving weather situation. Relief camps are on standby in flood-prone zones, and revenue and health department officials have been directed to remain alert.
In addition to school closures, the district collectors have urged all citizens to stay updated via official channels and avoid venturing into rivers or landslide-prone areas.
The declaration of a school holiday in Thrissur, Kasaragod, and Kannur underscores the state's proactive approach to student safety amid adverse weather. With the monsoon active and further rainfall expected, residents are urged to remain cautious, follow official advisories, and report emergencies to the nearest control centres.
