The Government of Kerala has taken significant steps in the education sector with a budget allocation of Rs 20 crore for the Maargadeepam pre-matric scholarship. This initiative is aimed at supporting students from Classes 1 to 8, filling the gap left by the central government's decision to limit the pre-matric scholarship to Classes 9 and 10. The move aligns with the Right to Education Act 2009, ensuring free and quality education for all children up to Class 8.

In addition to the scholarship, Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal unveiled various educational initiatives during the budget announcement. The state plans to transform one school in each district into a model school, emphasizing the importance of upgrading educational infrastructure. A new grading system will also be introduced to assess the quality of schools.
The budget allocates Rs 50 crore for a scheme providing financial assistance to institutions caring for intellectually challenged children. Furthermore, Rs 52 crore is earmarked for infrastructure development in government higher secondary schools, reflecting the state's commitment to enhancing educational facilities.
Recognizing the challenges posed by AI-generated fake news, the government has set up a dedicated fund to educate students about the risks associated with misinformation. A budget of Rs 1 crore has been allocated to the Department of Education to continue training programs, preparing the next generation to navigate the complexities of AI and its related technologies.
To foster interdisciplinary research, the finance minister announced the establishment of new research centers in government engineering colleges. Additionally, a pilot project for stem cell therapy in Government Medical College, Kottayam, will receive Rs 1.5 crore in funding. The initiatives outlined in the budget reflect Kerala's commitment to advancing education, embracing technological advancements, and ensuring a holistic development approach for the state's youth.
