Karnataka To Promote Students Of Classes 1 To 9 Without Exams: Minister Suresh Kumar

The Karnataka government has decided to promote students from Class 1 to 9 without any physical examinations in the schools. It has taken the decision after reviewing the situation prevailing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Karnataka State Education Minister S Suresh Kumar has announced that students will be promoted to the next grade based on the comprehensive evaluation criteria. Hence, students will not be asked to attend physical examinations in schools.

The schools are directed to complete the evaluation process by April 30. The affiliated schools will remain closed for the summer holidays from May 1 to June 14 for Classes 1 to 8. The summer vacation for students promoted to Classes 9 and 10 will be from May 1 to July 14. The new academic year 2021-22 is likely to commence for higher schools from July 15.

Minister Suresh Kumar has also announced that there is no change in the Class 10 (SSLC) board exam schedule. Karnataka SSLC exams will be conducted from June 21 to July 5, 2021.

Recently, the Karnataka government has suspended all classes from Class 6 to 9 due to a surge in Coronavirus cases across the country. The sources suggest that the decision on SSLC exams will be taken after observing the situation.

Earlier, the Central Government has cancelled the CBSE Class 10 board exams scheduled in May due to rising COVID-19 cases across the country. It has also postponed the Class 12 board exams scheduled from May 4. Many state boards have also decided to cancel the Class 10 exams and postponed the Class 12.
