In a turning point to the education system, what may seem news, it is revealed that CBSE schools do not have a uniform syllabus till class 8. In a move to curb the plethora of international and central schools that claim to offer a common and standard central government syllabus, the state government of Karnataka has formulated a new strategy.

Karnataka State Govt to Prescribe CBSE Syllabus

Karnataka government will be prescribing the CBSE and ICSE syllabus for schools till class 8. This comes only after an authoritative clarity has been given by Primary and secondary education minister Tanveer Sait said that the CBSE board has clarified in detail to the state's query.

The state government had written to CBSE seeking clarification on the affiliation of various schools

"The CBSE has clarified that they do not prescribe any syllabus for the schools till Class 8 as the secondary education starts from Class 9. Until Class 8, it would be primary education and has to be according to the state's decision," Sait said.

He further said, "Following the clarification, we are in the process of framing rules and regulations for the implementation of state syllabus till Class 8 in all central and international schools that claim to be affiliated to CBSE and ICSE."

Earlier the CBSE and ICSE schools were out of the state's purview in terms of the syllabus they followed. Now, this rule has changed and all the schools will have to adhere to the state government prescribed syllabus.

"We have withdrawn that exemption with immediate effect and all of them have to fall in line with the state syllabus," Sait added.
