Karnataka School Holiday: Schools & Colleges Closed in Hosanagar & Sagar Taluks Due to Heavy Rain

The Shivamogga district administration has declared a school holiday on July 8, 2026, for educational institutions in Hosanagar and Sagar taluks following continuous heavy rainfall and strong winds in the region. The precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff as adverse weather conditions continue to affect several parts of Karnataka.

Shivamogga Declares School Holiday on July 8

According to the district administration, schools, pre-university (PU) colleges, and anganwadi centres in the affected taluks will remain closed on Wednesday, July 8. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as heavy rain is expected to continue, increasing the risk of waterlogging, falling trees, and disruption to transportation.

The holiday order for Hosanagar taluk was issued by Bharat Raj, who announced the temporary closure of educational institutions as a preventive step. Similar precautionary measures have also been implemented in Sagar taluk, where weather conditions remain unfavorable due to persistent rainfall.

Officials stated that the decision was made after reviewing the prevailing weather situation and prioritizing student safety. Continuous rainfall and strong winds have affected normal life in several areas, making travel to schools and colleges potentially unsafe.

The administration has also clarified that the academic days lost because of the holiday will be compensated through special holiday classes. Educational institutions have been instructed to prepare revised academic schedules to ensure that the syllabus is completed without affecting students' learning.

Parents have been advised not to send their children to schools, PU colleges, or anganwadi centres in the notified areas on July 8. They are also encouraged to stay updated through official announcements issued by the district administration and educational institutions regarding any further changes to the academic schedule.

Meanwhile, local authorities continue to monitor rainfall levels and weather forecasts closely. Disaster management teams remain on alert to respond to any emergency arising from heavy rain or strong winds. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, until weather conditions improve.

The temporary closure reflects the administration's commitment to safeguarding students during the ongoing monsoon season. Any decision regarding reopening educational institutions or extending the holiday will depend on updated weather conditions and official advisories issued by the district authorities.
