JNU Students to Hold 'Education Parliament' at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, August 5, 2015: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students are holding an 'Education Parliament' at Jantar Mantar here tomorrow to deliberate upon the current reforms underway in the education sector, including the CBCS and Central University Bill.

 

Academicians and students from different universities and and institutions including JNU, DU, FTII, NCERT and ICHR will be participating in the parliament being organised by the JNU Students Union.

"The present government at the centre, along with massive fund-cuts, is imposing dangerous policies of CBCS, Central Univ Bill, RUSA, WTO diktats, saffronisation, Lyngdoh, to destroy the inclusive character of public-funded higher education in the country," the JNUSU alleged in a statement.

"These policies will commercialise, centralise and saffronise education and severely jeopardise institutional autonomy and campus democracy. It is important to have a dialogue on them," it added.

Amongt those who are expected at the parliament are former NCERT director Parvin Sinclair, JMI and former ICHR member secretary Gopinath Ravindran, former VC Lucknow University Roop Rekha Verma and representatives from teachers' unions DU, Jamia, JNU, IGNOU, Lucknow University and Aligarh Muslim University.
