On March 14, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) announced the creation of three new departments on its campus. The official notification mentioned that the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in her capacity as the visitor of JMI, has approved modifications to the existing statute 20.

These changes pave the way for the establishment of the new departments, which are poised to enhance JMI's academic environment. The newly established departments include the Department of Law within the Faculty of Law, the Department of Dental Sciences, and the Department of Medical Sciences under the Faculty of Dentistry.
With the introduction of these departments, JMI seeks to broaden its academic spectrum and address the changing needs of its students.
Furthermore, alongside the creation of new departments, JMI has launched innovative self-financed programs in BTech and MTech. These programs, unveiled earlier this month, encompass BTech in Electrical & Computer Engineering, BTech in Electronics (VLSI Design and Technology), BTech in Computer Science & Engineering (Data Sciences), and MTech in Data Sciences.
"We previously had faculty without designated departments. Consequently, we have established new departments. This initiative aims to streamline both courses and departments," stated Jafri.
According to the official order dated March 13, the university stated, "...The President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has graciously approved amendments/additions to the existing Statute 20 for the establishment of three new Departments..."
