Is Delhi University's Winter Break Real? Here's What You Need to Know

Delhi University (DU) has dismissed a circulating notice about a winter break from November 19 to November 27, 2024, stating that it was entirely fake. The misleading notice falsely claimed that the break was due to "severe air quality and the implementation of GRAP-IV measures in Delhi," and even included a forged signature from the registrar. It further misleadingly stated that all previously scheduled exams and interviews would continue despite the alleged break.

Is Delhi University's Winter Break Real?

In response to this confusion, DU took to social media to clarify that the notice was a hoax, stating firmly, "Fake notice." The university reassured students and faculty that its academic calendar remained intact. However, due to the dangerous spike in air pollution levels in the region, Delhi University has shifted to online classes until November 23, 2024. This precautionary measure aims to protect the health and safety of the DU community as the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi and NCR has reached alarmingly high levels.

The university's decision to hold online classes comes as part of its ongoing efforts to prioritize the well-being of students and staff amidst the current pollution crisis. The move also aligns with public health recommendations to minimize exposure to hazardous air, which has been affecting residents across Delhi.

An official notification from the university reiterated that physical classes would resume on November 25, 2024, as scheduled, ensuring that all academic activities, including exams and interviews, would proceed as planned. "The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi and NCR has deteriorated to an alarmingly high index. In the larger interest of students of the colleges and the departments of the University of Delhi, it has been decided that classes shall be conducted in online mode till Saturday, November 23, 2024. Regular classes in physical mode are to resume from Monday, November 25, 2024," the statement said.
