Institute of International Education (IIE), which conducts an annual statistical survey on international students in the United States of America, has released an Open Doors Report on the International Educational Exchange. The number of international students in the United States has touched the one million mark for the third consecutive year. According to the 2018 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, a total of 1,094,792 international students are studying in the USA.
The report has released the number of Indians studying in the United States. The report says that an increase of 5.4 per cent rises over the last year to 1,96,271. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the total number of Indians pursuing their higher education in the USA has grown.
While speaking at the US-Indian Educational Foundation (USIEF), Minister Counsellor for Consular Affairs Joseph Pomper said, ''Looking at the past 10 years of data, the number of Indians going to the United States has doubled. The reasons are clear: Indian students are looking for a great education and the United States continues to offer this.''
Mr. Joseph Pomper also added that the Embassy continues to see well-qualified Indians applying to study in the United States as well as record attendance at the US university fairs held across the country.
Indian students make up nearly 18 per cent of all international students in the USA, sitting next only to China. India provided the second highest amount of graduate students and fourth-most undergraduates. On the other hand, the number of American students studying in India increased to 4704 - 12.5 per cent more than the year before.
