Indian Navy Unveils INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, And INS Vaghsheer At Republic Day Parade 2025

On the occasion of the 76th Republic Day Parade in Delhi, the Indian Navy is set to present its latest additions to its frontline combat fleet on the Kartavya Path. The highlight of this year's Navy tableau will be the showcasing of INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer, all of which were commissioned into service just a week prior in Mumbai. The tableau, embodying the theme 'Nation Building through a Self Reliant Navy,' underscores India's stride towards self-sufficiency in defence capabilities.

The unveiling of the tableau model took place at a press briefing in Kota House, where the Navy's commitment to indigenisation and modernisation of its fleet was emphasized. The tableau design reflects the Navy's latest acquisitions: INS Surat, a state-of-the-art guided missile destroyer; INS Nilgiri, a next-generation stealth frigate; and INS Vaghsheer, a technologically advanced submarine. Together, these vessels represent a significant enhancement of the Navy's operational capabilities and its contribution to national security.

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, the Controller Personnel Services, during the briefing, pointed out the significance of these newly commissioned vessels. He mentioned, "the tableau will depict the three platforms commissioned just a week ago in Mumbai, symbolising India's naval prowess and the spirt of 'Atmanirbharta'." This statement highlights the Navy's pride in its recent achievements and its role in bolstering India's defence manufacturing sector.

The commissioning of these vessels was a momentous occasion, marked by a ceremony in Mumbai on January 15, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially dedicated these naval combatants to the nation. The inclusion of these ships and submarine in the Republic Day Parade tableau is a testament to India's growing capabilities in indigenous defence production and maritime prowess.

INS Surat stands out as the fourth and last ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, known for being among the world's most advanced and largest destroyers. Featuring an indigenous content of 75 per cent, it is equipped with cutting-edge weapon-sensor packages and network-centric capabilities, symbolizing India's self-reliance in defence technology.

Similarly, INS Nilgiri, the lead ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, showcases the Indian Navy's design and construction prowess. Designed in-house by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau, it incorporates modern features for improved survivability, seakeeping, and stealth, marking a new era for Indian-made frigates.

The INS Vaghsheer, as the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, exemplifies India's collaboration with international partners in defence technology. Jointly constructed with France's Naval Group, this vessel signifies India's advanced capabilities in submarine construction and operation, underscoring the theme of self-reliance.

Furthermore, the Navy's marching contingent and band will also feature in the ceremonial parade, adding to the display of India's naval strength and tradition.
