Indian history to be taught to US-based students

A new scheme called the Connect India Program (CIP) has been initiated by the UGC to teach US-based students about the rich cultural history of India. For this purpose, the UGS has given grants to five Indian universities.

This scheme, which was introduced at the US-India Higher Education Dialogue, includes universities like the University of Calcutta, University of Delhi, University of Hyderabad, University of Mysore and the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The UGC plans on this being a short-term course of 4-6 weeks duration, which will be taught during the months of October or November. Around 200 US students are expected to come to India each semester for this course.

Until now, the number of students from India, going to the US to study was very high. But there were very few US students who had come to India to study. Both US and India hope that this new scheme will go a long way in changing this pattern and will beigin to attract more US-based students to India. The exchange of students for education between the two countries is expected to be a strong force in strengthening the realtionship between the two countries.
