The 2024 GDS recruitment process is a nationwide initiative to fill 44,228 Gramin Dak Sevak posts. The selection is based on candidates' 10th-grade marks, with no interview or written examination required. Candidates who make it to the merit list will move forward to the Document Verification (DV) stage, followed by a Medical Examination (ME).
Application Process and Important Dates:
The application portal for GDS recruitment was open from July 15 to August 5. On July 12, the Ministry of Communications issued a notification inviting eligible candidates to apply for the available GDS positions, which include roles such as Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks in various offices of the Department of Posts.
The Ministry's notice clarified that Gramin Dak Sevaks are not considered regular employees of the Department of Posts. Their emoluments, allowances, and other entitlements differ significantly from those of Central Government employees. Therefore, it is crucial for candidates to regularly visit the official website for updates on merit lists and the subsequent rounds of the selection process.
The Ministry's notification stated:
"Applications are invited from eligible candidates to fill the vacant posts of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs), including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks, in various offices of the Department of Posts."
The notice further emphasized,
"Applicants must understand that GDSs are not regular employees of the Department, and their emoluments, allowances, and other entitlements are not comparable to those of Central Government employees."
Ongoing Recruitment and Next Steps:
This significant recruiting drive aims to fill positions across India Post's vast network of offices in different states. The selection procedure is transparent and merit-based, guaranteeing that only the most worthy candidates will move on to the next round based on their academic achievements.
In India Post's ongoing attempts to improve and streamline its staff through equitable and effective hiring procedures, the publication of this merit list marks a significant turning point.
