India is 2nd largest source for New Zealand

The number of students going to New Zealand from India for higher education has increased by 700% in the last 10 years.

 

There is a 12% increase in the number of international students in New Zealand from India. India has emerged as the second largest source of foreign students for New Zealand.

For first time, there is an increase of 123% of students visas in January-July 2014 session from India. The total number of student visa are up by 83% compared to last year.

This report has been released by the New Zealand High Commissioner to India, Grahame Morton. He said that the country's economic future is tied with their key relationship with India.

The Immigration New Zealand Area Manager Nathanael Mackay said, "The New Zealand Government has made changes to our work rights programme which allow more international students to work while they study, enabling them to gain valuable first world business experience whilst they study."

In 2013, a total of 11,984 Indian students were pursuing higher education in New Zealand.

The most popular disciplines for Indian students in New Zealand are;
Management and Commerce with 38%
Information Technology with 15%
Engineering and Related Technologies with 10%
Health with 10%
