President Droupadi Murmu underscored the vital role of nurturing young minds by integrating traditional values with modern knowledge. Speaking on the eve of India's 78th Independence Day, she emphasized that the ongoing Amrit Kaal period, leading up to the centenary of India's Independence, will be significantly shaped by today's youth.

Impact of the National Education Policy (NEP):
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is already making a substantial impact, as highlighted by President Murmu. She remarked, "It is the energy and enthusiasm of the youth that will propel the nation to new heights. Our priority is to cultivate young minds and foster a new mindset that merges the best of our traditions with contemporary knowledge. The National Education Policy, launched in 2020, has already begun to show promising results."
The NEP, which replaced the National Policy on Education of 1986, aims to expand the Right to Education (RTE) Act to encompass all levels of schooling, from preschool to Class 12, rather than just Classes 1 through 8. Additionally, the policy introduces a new 5+3+3+4 educational structure, replacing the previous 10+2 system, to create a more robust and comprehensive learning environment.
Government Initiatives for Youth Development:
To unlock the full potential of India's youth, the government has rolled out various initiatives focusing on skill development, employment, and educational opportunities. President Murmu highlighted these efforts, stating, "The Prime Minister's package of five schemes for employment and skilling will benefit 4.1 crore youth over the next five years. Additionally, under a new government initiative, one crore young people will have the opportunity to participate in internships with leading companies over the same period."
The NEP's restructured schooling system categorizes education into four stages: foundation (ages 3-8), preparatory (ages 8-11), middle (ages 11-14), and secondary (ages 14-18). This comprehensive approach aims to provide students with a more holistic and well-rounded educational experience.
Amrit Kaal and Youth Empowerment:
President Murmu emphasized that the youth were crucial in steering India's future during the Amrit Kaal period. She pointed out that their energy and passion are essential for national advancement. The NEP's focus on blending traditional values with modern knowledge aligns with this vision, ensuring that the youth are prepared to meet future challenges.
She also noted that these combined efforts in education reform and employment initiatives are laying a solid foundation for building a "Viksit Bharat" (developed India). The government's commitment to providing internships and skill development opportunities underscores its dedication to equipping the younger generation with the tools they need to contribute meaningfully to society.
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal role of education in national development. By fostering a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, India is preparing a generation ready to lead the nation towards greater heights in the years to come.
