In Maharashtra, 20 First Year Engineering Textbooks Launched In Marathi

Marathi 1st Year Engineering Textbooks: Twenty textbooks for engineering courses for both degree and diploma programmes have been released in Marathi by the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Directorate of Technical Education. The Union Minister of State for Education announced the release of the Marathi textbooks during a gathering at the Kalina Campus of Mumbai University. Additionally, the Maharashtra State Medical Education Department declared that Marathi-language MBBS textbooks would be made available to students.

The textbooks were translated by a group of teachers and subject specialists from Dr Babadsahed Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere. Additionally, AICTE will make soft versions of the textbooks available via E-Kumbh, which also includes engineering textbooks in 11 additional Indian languages.

When discussing the state of Marathi-language engineering education in Maharashtra, DTE Director Abhay Wagh noted that 163 of the state's 365 polytechnic institutions had selected the medium, with the majority being from the interior or rural areas of the state. Only one institute in Pune now provides degree programmes in Marathi for the Engineering degree programme.

20 Engineering Textbooks

Along with AICTe and STE, Maharashtra's Higher and Technical Education Department has released 20 first-year engineering textbooks in Marathi.

Note: Books have been released for nine-degree programmes and eleven diploma programmes.

The agency is also aiming to provide incentives to attract and recruit more universities to provide degree programmes in Marathi, the official continued.
