IMD Yellow Alert: Himachal Schools Closed Today in Solan & Sirmaur Due to Heavy Rain

The district administrations of Solan and Sirmaur have declared a holiday for all schools and educational institutions on Friday, July 10, 2026, following continuous heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh. The precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff as the state continues to experience adverse weather conditions.

Himachal Schools Closed Today Amid Heavy Rain

The closure comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in five districts-Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. According to the weather department, these areas are likely to receive moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, increasing the risk of waterlogging and landslides.

Heavy rain has been lashing several parts of Himachal Pradesh since July 8, disrupting normal life in many regions. Official rainfall data shows that Nahan in Sirmaur district recorded the highest rainfall at 89.6 mm, while Solan received 46.8 mm. Other areas witnessing significant rainfall include Jot (45.2 mm), Sarahan (38.7 mm), Malroan (41 mm), Paonta Sahib (34.4 mm), Bilaspur (24.8 mm), Kalpa (29.9 mm), Guler (24.4 mm), Dhaulakuan (20.9 mm), Shimla and Jatton Barrage (23.2 mm each), Rohru (20.5 mm), and Kufri (20 mm).

Due to the continuous downpour, rivers, streams, and seasonal drains across the affected districts have witnessed a sharp rise in water levels. Authorities have expressed concern over the possibility of flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas. Disaster management teams remain on alert and are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation.

The state administration has advised residents to avoid visiting rivers, waterfalls, and other water bodies, as well as to refrain from unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. People living in landslide-prone regions have also been asked to remain vigilant and follow official advisories.

Parents and students are encouraged to stay updated through official announcements from their schools and district administrations regarding the reopening of educational institutions. With the IMD forecasting more rainfall in the coming days, authorities continue to prioritize public safety while keeping a close watch on weather developments across Himachal Pradesh.
