IIT Roorkee has made a significant initiative to stimulate innovation and assist India in being more self-sufficient in technology. The institute signed an agreement with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) on October 27, 2023. The NRDC is part of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the two organizations collaborate to assist technological development.

Strategic Partnership
To boost innovation and technology transfer, IIT Roorkee has created a strategic cooperation with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC). This relationship will hasten the transfer of technology from IIT Roorkee to the global market, thereby contributing to India's technological independence and economic prosperity.
The function of NRDC in technology transfer and intellectual property creation matches with that of IIT Roorkee's innovation ecosystem, emphasizing the critical importance of higher education institutions in India's technological future.
"IIT Roorkee is at the forefront as India transitions into a global manufacturing hub to boost its economy," said Professor KK Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) such as ours play a key role in intellectual property development by encouraging new ideas.
Effective technology transfer is essential for worldwide market penetration. Our collaboration with NRDC underscores our dedication to this vision, with the assistance of NRDC's enormous global accessible networks."
"NRDC also provides funding and grants as Technology Commercialization Support, and these efforts can be accomplished with these types of collaborations for a broader range of inventors," said Cmde. Amit Rastogi, Chairman & Managing Director, NRDC. The Indian economy can profit from these higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL) innovations, as well as socioeconomic gains from such collaborative endeavors.
MAIN AIM
This strategic alliance intends to integrate IIT Roorkee's and NRDC's strengths and skills, promoting the global market entry of technology created at the institute. The ultimate goal is to strengthen India's vision of economic self-sufficiency, with intellectual property (IP) playing a key role in determining the country's future.
This collaboration is a crucial step toward fully using IIT Roorkee's innovation ecosystem, emphasizing its critical role in promoting India's technological self-reliance through rapid technology transfer.
NRDC representatives also visited IIT Roorkee's incubators, TIDES and TIH. These incubator units, which operate under the auspices of IIT Roorkee, have played an important role in the development and commercialization of cutting-edge technology.
