IIT professors to conduct online courses for poor students

New Delhi: Students from poor background, aspiring to join the IITs now have a reason to cheer.

Prestigious institutes' professors will offer IITPAL, free online lessons for poor students. IITPAL, the professor-assisted learning is a proposal made by the government, for which IITs have agreed to conduct such courses.

IITPAL Portal to have lectures on various subjects

Ashok Misra, former IIT Bombay director has been put in charge of creating the IITPAL portal.
The interactive portal, will have lectures by IIT professors on physics, chemistry and mathematics. Questions and answers from the IITs' Joint Entrance Examination of the past 50 years will also be made available on the portal.

"We want to break the stranglehold of coaching centres," a senior government official said. "Most of them (the coaching centres) have the database of questions which we will (also) provide free along with solutions," the senior official added.

Assignments will be given to students, and queries related to subjects can be addressed through online. The IITs have given their consent to have a mobile for the portal.
