IIT Mandi Director Recruitment 2026: Education Ministry Invites Applications
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has invited applications for the post of Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. Eligible candidates can apply for the senior academic and administrative position by submitting the prescribed application form along with the required documents through post and email.
IIT Mandi is an autonomous institution funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. According to the official notification, the Director will be appointed on a contractual basis for five years or until attaining 70 years of age, whichever is earlier. The appointment will be made with the approval of the competent authority based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee.
IIT Mandi Director Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have an outstanding academic record and hold a PhD with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree level, preferably in Engineering. In exceptional cases, candidates with degrees in Science, Mathematics or Management may also be considered.
The applicant should have at least 10 years of teaching experience as a Professor in a reputed Engineering or Technology institute or university and should have experience guiding PhD students. Candidates are also expected to possess a minimum of five years of administrative experience along with strong leadership qualities.
The preferred age limit is below 60 years on the last date for receipt of applications.
IIT Mandi Director Salary 2026
The selected candidate will receive a monthly salary of ₹2,25,000 (revised) along with allowances and other benefits as applicable under the prescribed rules.
The role involves providing academic and administrative leadership to IIT Mandi and contributing to the institution's continued development in teaching, research and other areas.
How to Apply for IIT Mandi Director Recruitment 2026?
Interested candidates must complete the application in the prescribed format and attach the required enclosures. The application should include a detailed resume highlighting research, teaching, industry-academia collaborations and administrative achievements.
Applicants must also submit a two-page justification explaining their candidature, a two-page vision statement for IIT Mandi and contact details of at least two distinguished individuals familiar with their professional work.

The application must reach the Ministry on or before October 31, 2026.
Candidates working in government departments, autonomous organisations or public sector undertakings must submit their applications through the proper channel, while also sending an advance copy to the Ministry.
The envelope should be clearly marked in bold with "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF DIRECTOR, IIT MANDI". One copy of the application, preferably in MS Word format, should also be sent electronically to councilo[[email protected]].
The recruitment comes ahead of the completion of the present Director Laxmidhar Behera's tenure in December 2026. Interested and eligible candidates should carefully review the official notification and ensure that their applications reach the Ministry before the prescribed deadline.
