IIT Madras launches an online certification program for practising engineers

Through its Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras, is providing an online degree program in "Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Practising Engineers." Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, applied sciences, or basic sciences as well as at least three years of professional experience. The registration deadline is September 20, 2023. For those who are interested, visit https://code.iitm.ac.in/additive-manufacturing-technologies-for-practising-engineers to submit an application.

AM is quickly becoming a popular method for creating different engineering and biological components. The use of AM in numerous technical and biomedical applications has enormous promise. For the low volume production of complex body implants with unique custom designs, it has already proven to be a practical, economical, and net-shape manufacturing procedure.

What The Course Means

"Practising engineers and middle-level managers who have not received classroom instruction on additive manufacturing are the target audience for this course. According to Dr. Murugaiyan Amirthalingam, Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT Madras, the goal of this course is to provide students with both fundamental and applied knowledge of additive manufacturing technology. Dr. Murugaiyan Amirthalingam continues, "Those who want to implement various AM technologies in their workplace can benefit from this course."

This course aims to give a thorough introduction of additive manufacturing operational concepts, design methods for additive manufacturing, and pre- and post-processing methodologies. Engineers in practice can learn about the underlying ideas that underpin the various additive manufacturing processes and how the acquired information is put to use to increase the commercial viability of the additive manufacturing technologies now on the market. Learners can launch their careers in additive manufacturing after completing this course.

These Are Some Of The Learning Objectives Of This Course

i. Being familiar with the foundations of additive manufacturing (AM) methods, materials, and post-processing techniques

ii. Acquiring practical experience while learning the genetic process chain of AM Technologies

iii. Develop the capacity to implement disruptive AM technologies in various engineering industries.

iv. Examine and recognize the influence of AM technologies on product development and design

v. Have a thorough understanding of the testing, qualifying, and standardisation processes and procedures for AM materials and components.
