Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) offers scholarships to deserving students annually, aiming to support and recognize their academic achievements and financial needs. These scholarships come in various forms, including fee concessions and direct transfers to students' bank accounts. Funded by the institute, these scholarships are based on merit-cum-means criteria for eligible students in specific courses.

The scholarships are available to students enrolled in four-year BTech (Hons), five-year dual degree, five-year BArch (Hons), five-year integrated MSc courses, and four-year BS programmes. However, SC and ST students who qualify for state government post-matric scholarships are not eligible for these institute-funded scholarships.
Eligibility and Award Criteria
Each year, up to 25% of students admitted to undergraduate and dual degree courses can receive these merit-cum-means (MCM) scholarships. The value of the scholarship is determined by the Board of Governors and includes an exemption from tuition fees, although recipients must still pay other fees.
The MCM scholarship is payable for all 12 months of the academic session, from July to June. If a student joins late in July, the scholarship for that month is prorated. Students cannot hold more than one scholarship simultaneously; they must choose between multiple awards if eligible.
Conditions for Renewal
To renew their scholarship annually, students must meet specific conditions:
- Maintaining a GPA of at least 7.00 over two consecutive semesters.
- Satisfying both merit and means criteria.
- Having no disciplinary actions or examination malpractice charges against them.
Fresh entrants need at least 60% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced. The scholarship can also resume for students who temporarily withdraw due to medical reasons or family emergencies, subject to eligibility and approval.
IIT Kharagpur also offers endowment and alumni-funded scholarships governed by specific rules. The term "best student" refers to those who meet general conditions and have secured the highest CGPA in their batch's preceding semester.
IT Kharagpur announced several reforms in its undergraduate programmes starting from the academic year 2024-25. These changes align with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020), reflecting the institute's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and support for its students.
The scholarships at IIT Kharagpur provide significant financial support and recognize academic excellence, helping students to focus on their studies without the burden of financial constraints. By offering these scholarships, IIT Kharagpur continues to foster an environment of academic excellence and inclusivity, ensuring that deserving students have the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
