IIT Kharagpur goes International

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur invites professors and scholars from foreign universities to offers joint Ph.D programmes with top international universities.

 

IIT Kharagpur has launched a Shri Gopal Rajgarhia International Programme on November 05, 2014. under this programme, around 10 professors from world's leading universities would visit the campus for every year.

IIT Director, Partha Pratim Chakrabarti said that, around 30 international scholars will be invited each year to conduct research activities at IIT.

He also said that they are in talks with the universities from USA, Europe, Australia and Japan. Students will be awarded a doctorate by IIT Kharagpur and an international university.

Chakrabarti said, ""The students will study at both the places. There will be international workshops and activities with the foreign university."

The joint programme will starts from January 2015. Currently, more than 200 Ph.D degrees are awarded by the IIT each year.

"We want around 25 per cent of Ph.Ds to be joint Ph.Ds. We will also be getting foreign students to study here for such joint Ph.Ds," Chakrabarti said.

The institute had already started the international summer winter programme, where in students from India and abroad are participating.
