IIT Jodhpur to Launch BTech Course in Hindi

With this move, IIT Jodhpur aims to make technical education more accessible and inclusive for students who are more comfortable with Hindi. The decision to introduce BTech courses in Hindi aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes promoting learning in regional languages to ensure better understanding and retention among students. By offering courses in Hindi, IIT Jodhpur is paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive educational environment, catering to a wider range of students across the country.

This initiative is expected to not only attract more students to pursue technical education but also empower those who may have been deterred by language barriers. By providing the option to learn in Hindi, IIT Jodhpur is breaking down linguistic barriers and creating opportunities for students to excel in the field of technology without being hindered by language constraints.

The Ministry of Education shared on Twitter, "The Ministry of Education is pleased to share that @iitjodhpur will now offer B. Tech 1st year courses in both Hindi and English, beginning this academic year! This initiative is designed to ensure all students can learn effectively in the language they are most comfortable with."

IIT Jodhpur will start by offering first-year BTech courses in both English and Hindi. The institute plans to create two sections for first-year students based on their language preferences. This decision aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes education in native languages to make learning more inclusive and accessible.

An official statement from IIT Jodhpur reads, "The Senate in its recent meeting approved the proposal to teach courses in Hindi and English. The Senate noted that IIT-Jodhpur, being at the forefront of technology, science, humanities, and management, is expected to impart education in the native language to help the students who face challenges in learning because of inadequacy in English proficiency."
To maintain consistent teaching standards, the same instructor will teach both English and Hindi sections of the first-year courses. This approach ensures that all students receive the same quality of education regardless of their chosen language medium.

The admissions process for these courses will be based on scores from the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024). This move is part of a broader trend where several states are introducing or planning to introduce medical and engineering education in Hindi and other regional languages.

This development marks a significant step towards making higher education more accessible to students across India. By offering courses in Hindi, IIT Jodhpur aims to bridge language barriers and provide equal learning opportunities for all students.
