IIT Bombay is set to expand its academic offerings with the launch of two pioneering programs in July 2025: a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geophysics and a Master of Technology in Climate and Sustainability. The announcement was made by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, during the 63rd Convocation's interim session, marking another milestone in the institute's journey towards academic excellence and innovation.

Expanding Horizons in Higher Education
Speaking at the convocation, Prof. Kedare emphasized IIT Bombay's commitment to evolving with the changing educational landscape. Convocation Highlights: A Celebration of Academic Excellence
The interim convocation, held in IIT Bombay's convocation hall, saw the awarding of 354 degrees to students who completed their academic programs between August 2024 and January 2025. A remarkable 219 PhD degrees were conferred, highlighting the institute's strong focus on research and higher education.
Among the other degrees awarded were 36 Executive MBA degrees and 6 Master in Development Practice degrees under CTARA (Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas). This marked the first batch of students graduating from the newly introduced online Master's in Development Practice program, an initiative designed to equip professionals with skills to drive sustainable development.

Reflecting on IIT Bombay's journey, Prof. Kedare highlighted the institute's phenomenal growth over the years. From a modest 2,500 students in 1965, the institution now boasts a vibrant student community of nearly 14,000, with over 4,000 PhD scholars.
