IIT Bombay has seen increase of 25% in pre-placement offers

Pre-placement offers increases at IIM Bombay

This year, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Powai campus has seen an increase of 25% in its pre-placement offers (PPOs). These premier institutions are also seeing increase in internships offers.

For first time, IIM Madras has set up an independent internship cell, which will work parallel to the placement cell.

IIT Bombay has received around 94 PPOs till the first week of October 2014. In 2013, it got about 75 offers.

"By the end of the season, we are expecting the numbers to go up a little more. Placements might be better than last year," said professor-in-charge of placements at the institute, Avijit Chatterjee.

Apparently, the number of offers received till now is more than the offers received in the last year. A salary package of Rs 20 lakh was offered to the students of IIT Bombay form Indian companies.

"PPOs going up are always a good indicator for institutes and students. But whether or not this will result in a better placement season entirely can be told only by December-end. We will have to wait and see if these companies, which are making PPOs, will come for a fresh round of recruitment during the placement season," said placement advisor Babu Vishwanathan.

IIT Madras has received around 60 PPOs till now. IIT Roorkee has received 52 PPOs.
