IIMs to launch e-learning website like NPTEL

All 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have decided to launch an e-learning website like NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning).

The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry has conducted meetings with the high-level committee members under IIM Calcutta board chairman Ajit Balakrishnan, to design content for the portal.

They have requested the 13 IIMs to suggest courses and designs to make the website reachable the target audience.

Already NPTEL is popular in offering video courses in engineering, science and humanities.

NPTEL was launched to improve quality of engineering education by establishing curriculum based on video courses.

The IIM committee held its meeting to discuss and develop a website, that would beat NPTEL technology.

IIM Indore director Rishikesha Krishnan said, "The ministry has started an initiative to develop online material for management education. But it's still an open question whether video is the best way to kick start online study."
