The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) is all set to launch two Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from July.
The online course will be offered free of cost. Currently, the institute will offer two MOOCs courses, and one more will start in the month of August, followed by another in the month of October.
However, the registration process for all the three courses has kicked off.
The introduction of MOOCs by IIM has brought cheers to students, who wish to take classes from home. The course enables students to attend classes on diverse topics such as Statistics, Information Technology (IT) and Operations Management, etc.,
The classes will be conducted by top faculty of IIM Bangalore.
The IIM Bangalore in association with Edx, has launched the online courses. The MOOCs courses will function under the name IIMBx. The business school (B-school), aims to apply latest technology to deliver the MOOCs to a large section of learners located across the world.
IIMB plans to increase the number of courses
Edx, launched by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, is offering interactive online courses from the best universities in the world. Around ten faculty members from IIM Bangalore have signed up to formulate and teach the online courses.
The IIMBx plans to increase the number of courses to eight by December and 10 by April, 2016.
According to TOI, IIM Bangalore has various plans to offer more courses in the future to a wider base of students in collaboration with other IIMs and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in order to offer more courses, etc. Besides, the IIMBx is working on courses in vernacular languages, beginning with Hindi and eventually in Kannada, Bengali and Tamil.
